Greenways Land Trust is once again inviting teachers and schools to participate in their environmental education programming. They offer nature-based outings and activities to enhance, restore, understand and appreciate nature. Environmental education opportunities include: planting native species, picking up litter in environmentally sensitive areas, interpretive outings to explore nature, identify who's who, and learn about ways to reduce our ecological footprint, removing invasive plants, stream monitoring, visiting the fish counting fence, watershed model interactive demonstration, birding, nature-based games, and painting yellow fish for the storm drain marking program. New this year through the Junior Streamkeepers EcoAction projects are Erickson and Denman pond planting and the construction of nest boxes for the Western Screech Owl. Greenways is looking for woodshop teachers who would like to build these houses and other classes who would be interested in assembling the nest boxes in collaboration with the woodshop classes. If you would like to get involved in any of these programs or the new programming initiatives, contact Kyle Fitzpatrick, Greenways’ education coordinator at kyle@greenwaystrust.ca.
