Emergency or Weather Closures

School Buses in deep snow.

While we try to keep schools open on every instructional day, there will be times when schools must temporarily close due to extreme weather, power outages, or for other emergency reasons. The superintendent may decide to temporarily close any or all district schools when the safety of students and staff may be compromised.

Parents, students and school district staff will be informed when schools are closed through the school district's website, their school website, , , and . Those who have downloaded and enabled notifications from the district's parent portal app, will get a notice to their cell phone as soon as the message is posted to our websites.

In the event of weather closures, we will also inform the local media, and weather closure notices will be issued by 7:00 a.m. – at the latest. If there is no announcement on the school website or social media, it may be because staff do not have power or internet access to post updates. In that case, please tune in to one of the local radio stations for the most current information:

  • 99.7 FM - The River
  • 97.3 FM - The Eagle
  • 98.9 FM - The Jet

No announcement by 7:00 a.m. means schools are open and operating as usual.

Even if schools are open, the ҹɫapp School District, and our schools, respect and support parents if you feel that it is unsafe to send your child to school or wish to pick-up your child early. We just ask that you report your child's absence through the school's attendance line if you choose to keep your child home for the day.
